Quai Lamartine, a riverside drawing room
Along the Saône, Quai Lamartine lines up terraces and century-old plane trees facing Saint-Laurent Bridge. Mâcon celebrates here its most famous son, Alphonse de Lamartine, and its river history. The moored barges and evening reflections give the quay a Mediterranean feel. A drink shared on a terrace, with the sunset ahead, sets a perfect scene for a first conversation.
In old Mâcon and the Timber House
The old town hides treasures: Old Saint-Vincent with its two octagonal towers, the Timber House on Place aux Herbes, a 16th-century masterpiece of carved half-timbering. The surrounding lanes lead to the market halls and small, authentic bistros. Walking hand in hand beneath the plane trees, past façades with coloured shutters, is a perfect excuse to extend the encounter.
Rock of Solutré and Pouilly-Fuissé
To the west, the Rock of Solutré raises its limestone silhouette above the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards. The family-friendly climb offers a sweeping panorama as far as the Jura and Mont Blanc on clear days. A tasting in Vergisson or Fuissé extends the day. On Lyad, Mâcon members share their favourite winegrowers; it is up to you to find someone to raise a glass with.
